Advent

by iMinds
ebook

Learn about the story of Advent with iMindsJNR learning series for younger minds.

You probably would agree that the four weeks leading up to Christmas are a special time of year. For Christians this is a period of preparation. Many Christians call these four weeks 'Advent' and they prepare themselves for the celebration of Jesus' birth. The word 'Advent' comes from the Latin 'adveneo', meaning 'to come to' and refers to Jesus' coming into the world at Christmas.

The four-week Advent observed today was not always in place. In the fifth century, Advent began on 11 November and lasted the 44 days until Christmas. But from sixth century the Catholic Church reduced Advent to four weeks in length. However, in Eastern Orthodox Christianity, Advent is longer. It spans the 40 days between 28 November and 6 January. Christmas Day is 6 January in these churches.

iMindsJNR offers 6 main categories for ages 7-14years including General Knowledge, Geography & Nature, Famous People, Science & Maths, The Arts and History. Clear, concise and engaging, open young minds to a love of learning. iMinds unique fast-learning products as seen in the Financial Times, Wired, Vogue, Robb Report, Sky News, LA Times, Mashable and many others.. the future of general knowledge acquisition.
